Schalke 04 ‘to activate’ €one million Satoshi Tanaka clause after Düsseldorf relegation | OneFootball

Schalke 04 are close to finalising a deal for Satoshi Tanaka from Fortuna Düsseldorf.

According to Sky, Düsseldorf's relegation to 3. Liga automatically reduced the Japanese midfielder's release clause from €10 million to €one million. Schalke have notified Düsseldorf of their decision to trigger it on Saturday.

Tanaka moved to Düsseldorf in winter under Sven Mislintat, joining from J1 League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima. His contract runs until 2030.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder was not included in Japan's World Cup squad. He recorded two assists in 13 2. Bundesliga matches.

The newly promoted Bundesliga side will now set the date for his medical. Completion would make Tanaka their first summer signing.
