Nico Schlotterbeck has made things clear – at least at first glance. The German international has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2031, ruling out the possibility of a move next summer. However, a possible move to FC Bayern is apparently not completely off the table
Negotiations between BVB and the central defender had dragged on for months, but now the decision has been made: Dortmund can plan for the long term with Schlotterbeck and avoid financial risk at the same time. Without an extension, the club would have been under pressure to make a move in the summer at the latest – either sell or lose him on a free transfer a year later
Despite the long-term commitment, Schlotterbeck has apparently kept a loophole open. As reported by kicker, the new contract contains an exit clause in the region of €50-60 million. However, this will only take effect from the summer of 2027 and will only apply to selected top clubs
Particularly interesting from Munich’s point of view: According to information from Mundo Deportivo, FC Bayern is one of the clubs, alongside Spanish clubs, for which this clause can be activated. This means that a move to the record champions remains an issue, at least in perspective

It is no coincidence that Schlotterbeck’s name is circulating in Munich. Bayern have been intensively involved with the centre-back in recent months due to the unclear future of Dayot Upamecano, who was considered a possible candidate to leave
However, the situation has since changed: Upamecano has extended his contract, meaning that the acute need in central defense is covered for the time being. A Schlotterbeck transfer is therefore no longer an issue at present
Nevertheless, the contractual constellation shows that the chapter is apparently not completely closed. With a view to the future, the Dortmund player has kept an option open – and Bayern remain a potential factor in the background.
