Nico Schlotterbeck is still being traded at FC Bayern. Now CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has made a clear statement on the personnel issue. His words are very revealing, especially in view of the Munich club’s current defensive planning.

The central defence has been a topic of discussion at the record champions for months. In an interview with Sport BILD, Jan-Christian Dreesen was specifically asked about Nico Schlotterbeck and found clear words. „There is no doubt that Schlotterbeck is an outstanding player. He is a Borussia Dortmund player. That’s why we don’t have to speculate about where he will play at some point and whether he will extend his contract or not.“

Dreesen also referred to the club’s own squad structure: „We have extended Upamecano’s contract. We are very well positioned with three great central defenders.“ In addition to Dayot Upamecano, this also refers to Jonathan Tah and Minjae Kim, who currently provide the necessary quality in the center of defence.

The statements are in line with the Munich side’s previous line. The club has already made a statement with the long-term extension of Upamecano. In addition, Tah was signed last summer and has impressed with consistently stable performances, while Kim also remains an integral part of the defence despite some criticism.

Ex-Bayern professional Thomas Strunz also sees no place for Schlotterbeck at Säbener Straße at the moment. In the fan talk on SPORT1, he explained: „The door is also closed at Bayern. Tah and Upamecano are set there.“ In his view, there is no immediate need in the center of defense at the German champions.

Explosive: Schlotterbeck was only in the spotlight on Saturday evening during Bayern’s 3:2 win in Dortmund. After a hard tackle on Josip Stanisic, the BVB defender himself said: „I think a red card could have been given. I was lucky.“ Stanisic was even clearer: „I don’t understand exactly why the referee didn’t give a red.“

While the discussions surrounding the scene are still reverberating, Dreesen’s classification provides clarity. Munich see themselves as strongly manned defensively – speculation about a possible transfer of the Dortmund international is therefore currently irrelevant.
