Scotland defeated Denmark 4-2 in a dramatic 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening.

Scotland got off to a flying start with Scott McTominay opening the scoring inside the third minute with a superb overhead kick from Ben Gannon-Doak’s cross.

After a great start by Scotland, Denmark grew into the game and started dominating possession.

Rasmus Hojlund thought he had restored parity for the visitors at the far post, but his effort was ruled out for a foul he committed in the build-up.

The Manchester United loanee missed a golden chance just before the half-hour mark, heading the ball over from six yards, but was later deemed offside.

Despite the visitors’ dominance, Scotland held on to their one-goal lead until the break.

The second half started like the first ended, as Denmark continued to push for the equaliser.

Just after the restart, goalkeeper Craig Gordon made a superb save to deny Hojlund, but he could do nothing to prevent the 22-year-old from levelling the scores from the penalty spot before the hour mark.

Denmark were reduced to 10 men after Rasmus Kristensen received a yellow card for a second bookable offence.

Substitute Lawrence Shankland restored Scotland’s lead, outmuscling goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to turn the ball home.

Their lead only lasted for three minutes, as a United wing-back Patrick Dorgu restored parity for the visitors with a simple finish into the bottom corner.

Scotland refused to be denied, and two late goals sealed a historic victory.

Former Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney put Scotland back in front before Kenny McLean capped off a memorable night with a decisive strike.

The win sends Scotland to the World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years, sparking jubilant celebrations at Hampden Park.
