Scotland v Denmark: team news, referee details, KO time & where to watch

Scotland face Denmark with a place at the 2026 World Cup on the line. Despite losing to Greece, Steve Clarke’s side have been handed a chance to secure top spot after the careless Danes drew to Belarus in Copenhagen. This means that Scotland are just ninety minutes away from a place at the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Scotland are guaranteed a place in the play-offs but can secure automatic qualification with a win against Denmark on Tuesday. In order to secure their place, Scotland will need to beat Celtic No.1 Kasper Schmeichel in the Denmark nets.

Team News

Clarke has been loyal as Scotland manager to the players that helped get him into favourable positions but the reality is that the squad have not been all that convincing of late. The performance against Greece showed sparks of quality and the manager will look to draw upon that in order to beat the Danes.

Celtic duo Kieran Tierney and Tony Ralston started on the bench but both could be brought into the fold given their quality. Callum McGregor has been a real miss for Scotland since retiring last year and his absence will be felt given that Billy Gilmour is out injured.

It will likely be a similar team that started against Greece with possible inclusions from Scott McKenna at the back as well as Lawrence Shankland and Lyndon Dykes in attack. Scotland need to be aggressive from the start in order to really get the crowd onside and hopefully set up a memorable night for the country.

Referee Details

Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been handed the whistle for the game. The 44-year-old is ranked as one of UEFA’s elite referees and has previously taken charge of a Scotland game – the 3-2 win over Israel in October 2021. Marciniak will be assisted by Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik with Pawel Raczkowski operting as Fourth Official.

Meanwhile, Tomasz Kwiatkowski is on VAR duties with Daniel Stefanski assisting.
