The big question will be how Clarke sets up his side. Scotland have fluctuated between formations to date and could again opt for a back five against Brazil, with Scott McTominay and John McGinn in support of a sole centre-forward.

Brazil team news

Brazil have been dealt a blow with Raphinha ruled out with a hamstring issue. The Barcelona winger will play no part against Scotland and is racing against time to regain fitness for the knockout rounds, should Brazil progress through the tournament.

Rayan replaced Raphinha against Haiti and is expected to come in from the start, though the fit-again Neymar offers an alternative. The 34-year-old is available after missing the opening fixtures against Morocco and Haiti.

Form

Scotland

Scotland edged past Haiti in their opener, courtesy of McGinn’s goal. However, the Tartan Arm suffered a setback after losing to Morocco by the same scoreline, with Bayern Munich-bound Ismail Saibari scoring inside the opening two minutes.

Scotland also have a poor record against Brazil, failing to win in eight previous meetings (2D, 8L).

Brazil

Brazil bounced back from an opening draw with Morocco by beating Haiti 3-0. Matheus Cunha scored twice for the South Americans, with Vinicius Junior also on target.

The latter has started the tournament strongly with back-to-back goals and will want to hunt down big names Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

Predicted lineups

Brazil: Alisson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Douglas Santos; Guimaraes, Casemiro; Rayan, Paqueta, Vinicius Jr; Cunha.

Scotland: Gunn; Patterson, Hendry, Hanley, Robertson, Tierney; Christie, Ferguson; McTominay, McGinn; Adams
