Morocco secured a controlled 1-0 victory over Scotland at Gillette Stadium as Ismael Saibari's second-minute goal proved enough to claim all three points. Steve Clarke's side failed to register a single shot on target across 96 minutes as Morocco extended their unbeaten run to 31 matches and moved top of Group C. GOAL breaks down the winners & losers from Scotland v Morocco.
Ismael Saibari needed just 70 seconds to score the decisive goal, collecting Brahim Díaz's through ball on the right side of the penalty area and drilling a right-footed shot into the left corner. The early strike set the tone for Morocco's controlled victory and extended their unbeaten run to 31 matches.
Saibari's movement throughout troubled Scotland's defensive line as he repeatedly found pockets of space behind the back four. Early in the second half, his deflected effort grazed the top of the post after being diverted by Jack Hendry, coming close to doubling Morocco's advantage when the scoreline remained precarious.
His work rate and intelligent positioning stretched Scotland's shape whenever Morocco attacked, creating room for teammates to operate. Withdrawn in the 84th minute with the job done, Saibari's contribution proved the difference in a match where Morocco's superiority produced only one goal despite dominating proceedings.
Brahim Díaz delivered the key pass that decided the outcome, threading a precise through ball to Ismael Saibari inside two minutes for the only goal. It marked his second assist of the tournament after performing the same role in Morocco's opening draw against Brazil, cementing his status as the Atlas Lions' primary creative outlet.
Operating primarily on the right flank, Díaz consistently found space between Scotland's defensive lines to receive the ball and drive forward. Jack Hendry was tasked with blocking his penetrating runs as the match progressed, reflecting Scotland's recognition that limiting Díaz was essential to stemming Morocco's attacking threat.
Díaz remained Morocco's primary attacking hub until his substitution in the 84th minute, his combination play with Achraf Hakimi keeping Scotland pinned back. His early contribution set the platform for a controlled victory that moved Morocco to the top of Group C and maintained their status as the only unbeaten team in the group.
John McGinn squandered Scotland's best chance of the first half when he volleyed wide from close range in the 45+2' minute. Andrew Robertson's cross from the left found him at the far post, but his effort was poorly executed and went harmlessly out of play, leaving Scotland scoreless at the interval.
The missed opportunity was Scotland's clearest sight of goal in the entire opening period, arriving just as Steve Clarke's side had finally applied some late pressure. With Morocco holding a slender lead, a conversion would have drawn Scotland level and potentially shifted momentum heading into the break.
McGinn struggled to influence the match consistently beyond that moment, eventually being replaced by Ross Stewart in the 89th minute as Scotland made desperate late changes. His failure to convert from a good position epitomised Scotland's attacking struggles on a night when they failed to register a single shot on target across 96 minutes.
