Scott Bain called up to Scotland squad after Celtic exit | OneFootball

Former Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has been rewarded for his fine form with Falkirk by being included in the Scotland squad. Steve Clarke confirmed the goalie had been included for the doubleheader against Greece and Denmark.

Bain made the decision to leave Celtic in the summer in an attempt to get first team football after years deputising at Celtic Park. The switch to Falkirk has paid dividends with John McGlynn’s side impressing – a big factor of that has been Bain’s displays between the nets.

Speaking at the announcement of his squad, Clarke explained the decision to recall the 33-year-old given the injury to Angus Gunn.

“It will be nice to see Scott again. It’s been a long time since we worked together.

“Scott made a big decision to come out of Celtic to go and play regular first team football and now that he’s in the squad, you could say that’s a reward for that decision.

“We will look at them in training and I will lean heavily on my goalkeeping coach Chris Woods to come to a decision.”

Bain is the only goalkeeper called up by Clarke that is playing regularly with Liam Kelly and Craig Gordon also called up. It will be interesting to see if Clarke goes with again over his former Celtic colleague Gordon. The 42-year-old has been forced to watch from the bench as Derek McInnes has taken the Jambos to the top of the table.
