Scott McTominay crowned Serie A’s Player of the Year | OneFootball

Scott McTominay has made history by becoming the first Scot to win Serie A’s Player of the Year award, rounding off a brilliant debut season with Napoli.

The Scotland midfielder was outstanding throughout Napoli’s title-winning campaign, quickly becoming one of their key players after his £25 million move from Manchester United last summer. His season included a standout goal in the decisive 2-0 win over Cagliari on the final day, sealing the club’s Scudetto triumph in style.

In doing so, he joins a star-studded list of past winners such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo, Kaká and Zinedine Zidane.

McTominay received the award at the Gran Gala del Calcio, where he was also named in the league’s Team of the Season. 

The Top XI was heavily dominated by Napoli and Inter, featuring the likes of Denzel Dumfries, Amir Rrahmani, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, Nicolò Barella and Lautaro Martínez.

Tijjani Reijnders, now at Manchester City, and top scorer Mateo Retegui, who left Atalanta for Al-Qadsiah, also made the cut. Roma keeper Mile Svilar and Fiorentina’s Moise Kean rounded off the side.

There was further recognition on the night, with Antonio Conte named Serie A Coach of the Year.
