Scott McTominay has reportedly emerged as a firm target for Newcastle United as Eddie Howe plots a squad revamp this summer.

That’s according to journalist Neil Goulding (Sports Boom), who claims that the former Manchester United star is also being eyed up by Crystal Palace.

However, of the two clubs, Saudi-backed Newcastle would undoubtedly be the favourites to come out on top in any potential bidding war.

He adds that McTominay is still highly thought of at United, where he spent a whopping 22 years of his youth and senior career working his way through the ranks.

Newcastle’s interest comes amid growing speculation that Sandro Tonali could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

In addition, Manchester City are said to be long-term admirers of Bruno Guimaraes, who could himself start considering a new venture if it looks as though the Magpies will finish outside of the European places.

As for McTominay, it goes without saying that, when club action draws to a close in a few months’ time, his sole focus will be preparing for the World Cup.

He played an integral role in Scotland securing their spot at their first tournament in 28 years, and will be one of Steve Clarke’s most trusted lieutenants when the group stage gets underway.

The 29-year-old has also been an influential figure since he first arrived in Naples in August 2024, so much so that he claimed Serie A’s Most Valuable Player award upon the culmination of their Scudetto-winning campaign in 2024/2025.

Napoli have, however, struggled to maintain the same levels this term, and sit a whopping 14 points behind league leaders Inter Milan after 26 matches.

They failed to advance from the first phase of the UCL after finishing 30th of 36 teams, although Antonio Conte’s side did secure one form of silverware this season through their Italian Super Cup triumph back in December.
