A post-match melee marred the end of Bragantino’s 3-0 win over Flamengo in Bragança Paulista in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro on Thursday. According to Globo.com, no cards were shown for the flashpoint.

The dispute began when Vinicinho lifted the ball to hand it to referee Fernando Antonio Mendes at the final whistle. De la Cruz objected, shoved the forward, then pursued him before senior Flamengo players stepped in to calm things.

A member of the home backroom staff moved to defend Vinicinho and shoved the Flamengo midfielder, after which tempers escalated. Security staff from the Rio club intervened, while the Bragantino squad escorted the player to the dressing room.

In the mixed zone, Flamengo goalkeeper Rossi said a home assistant had elbowed De la Cruz, adding that was why he reacted and that he normally avoids such confrontations but would act to protect team-mates.

Bragantino’s Gabriel said some Flamengo players were angered by Vinicinho’s foot-on-the-ball gesture, argued it was part of football and noted the hosts had already spoken with Flamengo’s senior players.

Flamengo’s Pulgar was sent off early in the second half. The hosts’ goals came from Pitta, Gabriel and Lucas Barbosa.
