Sebastiaan Bornauw has endured a lean first campaign for minutes at Leeds United, but he says he has loved Elland Road and highlights the group’s biggest strength.
Sunday’s meeting with Brighton was only his fifth league start and his second at Elland Road. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 27-year-old has had a few niggles and, even when fit, competition from Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and James Justin has limited chances.
His starts have come against Liverpool, Man Utd, Everton, Chelsea and Brighton, and he has yet to lose a top-flight game he has begun for Leeds. Off the bench he helped see out wins over Chelsea, Fulham and Forest, leaving him with fond home memories.
Bornauw accepted that every player wants to feature more, but said he enjoyed every minute he was given. He felt Elland Road matched his high expectations, calling nights under the floodlights incredible and among the best atmospheres in England, and probably in Europe.
Leeds were short of fluency on Sunday, with key men missing, yet they stayed in the contest and always left themselves a chance of points through a dogged display.
He believes the squad’s biggest strength is never giving up, running for each other as friends and being there on and off the ball. With safety long assured, he added they will try to give their best again next week and try to win.
