Twenty-six players were named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for FIFA World Cup 2026. To get to know them better, we asked every player a set of 26 rapid-fire questions to learn more about their personalities and their journeys that led them to this incredible moment on the sport’s biggest stage.
Here are some of our questions with midfielder Sebastian Berhalter:
What music is on your workout playlist right now?
It’s all ICEMAN. Literally every single song on that playlist right now.
Besides soccer, what else keeps you busy?
We’re playing poker right now as a team, so that's pretty fun. And I've always loved reading books.
Can you describe your perfect morning?
Waking up preferably pretty early, around seven, taking a shower, going to get some coffee, and then reading a book. Then, I go into everything I do in the day.
Do you have any specific morning routines?
I love reading, meditating and taking a cold shower.
When did your cold plunges begin?
I've been doing that for a while, almost a year and a half ago. One of my buddies from Vancouver and I started doing that, going in the mornings, the day before the game. It was something where we wanted to test ourselves and get out of our comfort zone.
If you could go pro in any other sport, what would you choose?
I'm pretty limited in that aspect. I would choose basketball, but I have no shot.
Do you have a favorite NBA or college team?
Boston Celtics.
Are you a golf kind of guy?
I love golf.
Who would you pick to play a round of golf with from the National Team player pool?
Christian Pulisic, Patrick Schulte and Antonee Robinson.
If you could play a round of golf with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Probably Scottie Scheffler.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Teleport. I could go home and come back. I feel like it would make life so much easier.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m half Puerto Rican.
What's something new that you want to learn?
Guitar. I've been saying that for two years now, and I still haven’t done it.
What's your go-to karaoke song?
Budapest by George Ezra.
Who on the National Team are you passing the aux to?
Mark McKenzie.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Focused, energetic and free.
Do you prefer tea or coffee?
Coffee.
What’s your go-to coffee order?
Cortado. Every day of the week.
How do you get in the zone before a match?
I just do what I do. I use my routines to focus myself. It's not like I'm super locked in. It's about starting getting in the zone.
Who's the first person that you text after a match?
My mom. I always call my mom first.
What does an ideal rest day look like for you?
Going to a cold plunge or sauna place. Then, going to get a coffee and hanging out with my boys. Oh, and definitely some golf.
When this tournament is over, and you look back, what do you hope people say about the way you played and carried yourself?
That I gave 110% and that I’m always going to do my best, in everything that I do.
