Sebastian Kehl has opted against joining Tottenham Hotspur as their new sporting director, according to journalist Patrick Berger.

The German was expected to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the club secured Premier League safety.

However, Kehl has rejected their offer despite negotiations and multiple meetings in London.

The former Borussia Dortmund sporting director was unhappy that Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi would be given greater influence within the sporting structure.

The Italian will have a major say in transfer decisions at the club after claiming the club has only around 12 players good enough to stay beyond this summer.

Kehl was uncomfortable with the arrangement and has rejected Tottenham.

Spurs had Fabio Paratici and Johan Lange as their sporting directors and are looking to replace the latter.

Lange remains at the club and will work with De Zerbi in the summer transfer window.

It is unclear if Tottenham will appoint someone else after Kehl turned them down.

They need a major squad overhaul heading into next season, and his experience would have been useful.

The Lilywhites have already started working on transfer deals ahead of the official opening of the summer transfer window.

Andy Robertson will join the club on July 1 following the expiration of his contract at Liverpool.

Argentinian defender Marcos Senesi has reportedly agreed to a move after leaving Bournemouth as a free agent.

Spurs have Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez on their radar after having two bids rejected for Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke.

They are also looking to strengthen in attack, with talks ongoing to sign Manchester City’s Savinho.
