Eight months after taking charge, Monaco head coach Sébastien Pocognoli faces an uncertain future after a disappointing season that ended seventh in Ligue 1. Nice-Matin reports that the prevailing expectation is a dismissal, although he has not yet discussed his future with the board.
Under contract until June 2027, the Belgian, 38, could depart with assistants Kevin Mirallas and Artur Kopyt, with president Dimitri Rybolovlev still to decide on the trio. An end-of-week meeting between the president and the sporting leadership will set the budget for next season and should also address Pocognoli’s position.
Pocognoli replaced Adi Hütter in October. Monaco will be in the Europa Conference League in 2026-2027, not in the competition the club initially targeted.
He would be paying for two damaging slumps, a run of seven defeats in eight in Ligue 1 between November and early January, then only five points from 18 across the final six rounds.
The latter followed seven straight wins that had revived the push for the Champions League, and doubts over his playing philosophy have since emerged. Inside the club, responsibility for the failure is acknowledged across leadership, technical, performance and medical departments. With no negative signals sent to general director Thiago Scuro or technical director Carlos Avina, the first significant decision concerns the head coach.
