Lost in the chaos of a busy FA Cup weekend and the midweek Premier League round that’s followed has been Armando Broja’s latest injury.

He arrived on loan at Everton back in the summer with one issue, spent months working his way back from it, made his debut, picked up another injury, recovered from that and came on to play 25 minutes against Peterborough at the weekend in the cup.

Sadly, you can guess what came next. He rode a tackle, landed awkwardly and hurt his ankle. It took a few days for the results of a scan to come through, and the initial update sounded surprisingly positive given he was stretchered off:

“He is going for another scan. I think there’s a little bit of mixed [feeling] — one moment we’re not thinking it’s not too bad, so that’s why we’re doubling up [with the scans]. We’re just waiting on a bit of swelling to go down before he goes for a scan and hopefully we’ll get a better idea in the next few days,” his new coach at Everton David Moyes had said in his press conference ahead of the Toffees game against Aston Villa last night.

But yesterday the results of the scan were in, and Moyes’ post match was more gloomy:

“We think he’s going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks. It’s his ankle ligaments. It’ll probably mean there’s a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea.”

Recall almost certain as another season wiped out for Broja

If it’s 12 weeks and a month after that to get up to full fitness ready to start, that’s the end of the season. So there really is no point leaving him at Everton. We’d imagine he will be back at Chelsea right away to start his latest rehab.

Another sad chapter is written in the tragic tale of Broja, who came so close to breaking into our team but has since just suffered injury after injury.
