The second stage of the Marathon for amateurs is coming

Next Saturday, December 6th, the second window of the Santa Fe-Coronda Aquatic Marathon for amateurs will take place. The first was held last weekend, and this second one will also cover a distance of 58 kilometers. The start will be from the Costanera Este beach, using the Santa Fe River, Cuatro Bocas, and the main course of the Coronda River. The finish line is planned at the municipal beach of Coronda.

Almost 100 swimmers will participate in the second window. Specifically, there are 96 athletes, of which 16 are solo swimmers and 20 are relay teams. The start time is scheduled for 8 a.m., and the arrival at the national capital of strawberries is expected at 3 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to see some very good amateur open water swimmers in action.

Regarding the first stage of the event for amateurs, Diego Degano stated that “frankly, it was a trial by fire, and honestly, everything went very well. The test format, the journey, was non-competitive, the amateur swimmers, a new fleet of boats, a new scheme from the provincial health emergency system—everything was new and it turned out more than satisfactorily.”

The former multiple open water champion commented that “it was a challenge, and we passed the test in every sense. All the swimmers finished within 10 hours. We had no health issues. The weather was on our side, except for the last hour when the south wind picked up, and even gave us the ferocity of the Coronda River for those who reached the finish line.”

“The swimmers were very satisfied, everyone is very happy, very pleased, and very grateful. Although this Saturday we will have the second window, and we must not relax at all, we are preparing everything for the weekend. We have more than passed the test, and that gives us a sense of calm, because in terms of sports, the truth is that as an organization we are satisfied with what happened in the first stage,” highlighted one of the event organizers.

“The Marathon, like any outdoor event, is not exempt from weather issues. We made plans A and B, depending on what the weather forecasts indicated. We had to switch to plan B, which was the award ceremony, and we were able to do it thanks to the kindness and generosity of the directors of the Regatas Club of Coronda, who lent us the basketball court facilities,” said Degano.

Regarding the upcoming competition, Diego stated that “the river is rising, good weather is forecast for the weekend, and we start at eight in the morning. In terms of participation, we will have sixteen individuals, a smaller number than last week, but we are going to double the number of teams. We went from twelve to twenty. So, from the 70 swimmers who participated last Saturday, now there will be 96 swimmers.”

“The level is going to be very close, especially in the solo category; there are four or five swimmers who could be fighting for the top spots. In terms of relays, there is a contest between two or three very good teams: the group led by Julio Borlle, the Old Wolves, with Gustavo Oriozabala, and then, many people who have been giving it their all for six months, ever since their participation was confirmed,” said Diego Walter Degano.
