While everything at FC Bayern is currently focused on the Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, behind the scenes planning for the coming season has long been in full swing. One of the central questions is whether the Munich club will be able to finance the spectacular transfer of Anthony Gordon
Squad planning at the German record champions is likely to come back into focus as early as the beginning of next week, when sporting director Max Eberl will have to provide the supervisory board headed by president Herbert Hainer with a comprehensive update on personnel planning
One of the key topics will be the possible signing of Newcastle star Anthony Gordon, the England international who is apparently seen internally as the ideal solution for the attack
However, a transfer would be anything but cheap, with Newcastle United reportedly unwilling to budge from their demands of around 80 million pounds – the equivalent of around 92 million euros
There is also another factor: in the event of a sale, the Magpies would have to pass on 15 percent of the transfer fee to Gordon’s former club Everton FC. This is another reason why Newcastle have been tough in the negotiations so far
Despite the enormous costs, Gordon should fit perfectly into the requirement profile that Munich have defined for the offensive. Particularly interesting: According to BILD, Max Eberl has been working with an external data analysis company for around ten years, the identity of which is deliberately kept secret

Together with this analysis company, Eberl and his team are supposed to create detailed player profiles that are precisely tailored to FC Bayern’s playing philosophy. Candidates are checked against numerous performance data and compared with the desired profile
This procedure apparently already played a decisive role in the transfer of Michael Olise. The Frenchman was not considered an absolute superstar on the international market before his move from Crystal Palace, but convinced the Bayern bosses internally with his data values and profile
According to the report, Luis Díaz also fits perfectly into Munich’s modern style of play, with players of this type expected to further strengthen the team’s enormous attacking dominance
The figures speak for themselves anyway: FC Bayern have already scored 116 goals in 32 Bundesliga games to date, setting a historic record
It is also interesting to note that even prominent names can fall foul of this internal profile: the transfer of Nico Williams is said to have been rejected last season, despite the Spaniard being a European champion and one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe
For Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, it seems that it is no longer just the big name that is decisive, but rather that the Munich club is increasingly relying on data-based analyses and clearly defined game profiles
Whether Gordon will actually end up moving to Munich remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: internally, the Englishman apparently meets almost all the criteria that FC Bayern are currently looking for in their new attacking star.
