Lorenzo Insigne has been spotted in Rome as he’s on the brink of finalizing his much-anticipated transfer to Lazio.
The Napoli legend returned to Italy last summer after ending his three-year stint at Toronto FC. While he had several offers on the table, his priority has been to reunite with Maurizio Sarri, who considers him ‘like a son’, even if it meant remaining on the shelf for six months.
With the Biancocelesti slapped with a transfer ban, signing Insigne wasn’t possible in the summer. However, the club has recently announced that their market has been unblocked, so they’ll be able to operate freely in January, which should pave the way for the arrival of the 34-year-old, who already has an agreement with Lazio.
According to Il Messaggero, Insigne has already arrived in Rome earlier this week, as he prepares to officially sign his contract with the Aquile. The winger will earn circa €1.2 million until the end of the season, and the deal will include an option for another year. The source adds that the veteran took photos with young Lazio fans at a restaurant in Rome before greeting them with a ‘see you soon’.
Insigne will essentially act as Mattia Zaccagni’s understudy on the left wing, as Pedro struggled to fill in for the captain, who was suspended against Cremonese. The former Napoli star has always been associated with the No. 24 jersey, a tribute to his wife’s birthday, and he’s expected to don this number once more at Lazio.
