Seko Fofana was left out of Rennes’ squad for the 0-2 defeat by Lorient and now appears to be on his way out, a year after arriving from Al Nassr for €20m and with a deal to 2029. Chelsea’s pursuit of Jérémy Jacquet continues after a €50m offer was rejected.
Habib Beye said selection is strictly performance based, with eight midfielders and others currently ahead, so Fofana must work to rejoin the group. He added that opportunities exist and choices will depend on what is best for the player and the club. Sky Germany reports that Toulouse’s Charlie Cresswell could be targeted if Jacquet were to depart.
Back from suspension, Jacquet endured a difficult outing while being closely watched by Chelsea. Beye felt he was below his usual level, noting the 20-year-old France Under-21 defender is a young player with a lot happening around him.
The €50m figure matches what Paris Saint-Germain paid for Désiré Doué, excluding bonuses. Chelsea could return before the window shuts with an offer just above €50m before bonuses, and that is not impossible.
Toulouse are unlikely to sell for less than €30m after turning down €23m from Wolfsburg.
