Sekou Kone: Mali youth coach hails “promising” starlet as he steps up return to action | OneFootball

Mali coach Fousseni Diawara has lauded Manchester United talent Sekou Kone for his exceptional talent and attributes, as the midfielder steps up his return to action.

Kone is back and available for contention following a lengthy three-month layoff with an injury.

He sustained a serious physical setback in August, fracturing his eye socket during a National League Cup meeting with Tamworth. Kone collided with an opposition player during a set-piece routine and came out the worst from the incident.

The 19-year-old was stretchered off the pitch and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The game was consequently abandoned.

Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Kone was inching closer to making a return to training.

Two weeks ago, he featured for the final minutes of United Under-21s’ clash against Notts County in the EFL Trophy. Kone has now taken another huge step towards a full comeback with a longer appearance during the ongoing international break.

Mali youth coach praises Kone

Kone was part of the Mali Under-23 squad that played Indonesia last weekend. He was initially named on the bench but was thrust into the action for the final 30 minutes of the friendly.

Mali won the game 3-0.

Speaking after the final whistle, Diawara said about the United youngster [via Manchester World], “Regarding Sekou Kone, who plays for Manchester United, he is a promising player with many good qualities.”

“Like other players in the team, he has many opportunities to develop.”

“He is playing for a big club that is very popular in Indonesia, Man United.”

Manchester World add that United are taking no risks with Kone and there is no rush for him to return to action at club level.
