Less than a week after a 0-4 Champions League final defeat to FC Barcelona, OL Lyonnes crushed Paris FC 5-0 on Friday to seal their 19th French title.
According to L'Équipe, left-back Selma Bacha said it felt good to win with style and praised Paris FC’s campaign, while underlining her side’s character. She was proud of the group and said the triumph completed a treble.
Bacha admitted the week had been hard and that the aim was to make the group rebound. She said they were strong mentally and that captain Wendie Renard, senior players and the coach spoke, which helped.
She felt rivals are closing the gap and that play-offs mean everything can hinge on one match, so focus and clarity are vital. She wants to savour this, reset, and hopes to challenge for every trophy next season.
General manager Vincent Ponsot said he was happy for the squad and staff after a fine season, despite last week’s blow. He noted they end with three trophies and a Champions League final, even if they had wanted a fourth.
He cited a new staff and nine new players, calling this first-year return encouraging. He added that a home final before 27,000 carried responsibility, and that not winning would have clouded a league they led comfortably.
