According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica must pay more than 17,000 euros in sanctions, largely for pyrotechnics during the draw with Braga.

The penalties were imposed by the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation after the 33rd round of Liga Portugal Betclic, which also saw Benfica lose second place to Sporting.

A fine of 16,295 euros was issued to the club for the use of pyrotechnics, including fireworks launched near half-time.

A further 893 euros was levied for improper conduct by supporters, with insults aimed at Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek at 17 and 34 minutes of the first half. During the 43rd minute of the second half, fans chanted that the visitors were a disgrace and called on Rui Costa to resign, using an expletive.

Assistant coach Pedro Machado was sent off on 78 minutes, then handed a one-match ban and a 2,805 euro fine for angrily protesting a penalty claim at the officials.

He will miss the trip to Estoril on Saturday, 16 May, for the 34th and final round at Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, with kick-off at 20:30 against Ian Cathro’s side.
