Arsenal could swoop in on an opportunity left open by Manchester City this summer, as the race to sign Newcastle United and England’s Tino Livramento intensifies.

The 23-year-old has become one of the most talked-about names in the Premier League, particularly now following his return to action in Newcastle’s recent 1-3 FA Cup fifth round defeat to Manchester City on March 7.

Having missed 15 games earlier this season with a persistent hamstring injury, alongside other absences due to fitness problems, Livramento’s physical status and future have been under intense scrutiny as the summer transfer window approaches.

While Newcastle currently find themselves poised at 1-1 following the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 clash with Barcelona, the noise surrounding their star full-back refuse to subside.

With only two years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park and no extension yet signed, the Magpies find themselves in a vulnerable position regarding one of their most valuable assets.

Why Arsenal Could Now Hold the Edge for Livramento

Now, according to the information of The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, reports claiming Manchester City were ready to renew interest in Livramento after being heavily linked last summer have been ‘played down’ in the last few days by senior Etihad Stadium figures.

Elsewhere, it is now claimed that their Premier League title rivals Arsenal are keeping a close watch on the Newcastle full-back as they consider making a summer bid for a player whose asking price would be around £60 million in the summer.

A potential move to North London may be bolstered by the fact Livramento shares the same representative agency as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta – a connection that could prove pivotal in smoothing over negotiations, should they emerge.

What Next For Livramento, City, and Arsenal?

For the Gunners, the England international represents a versatile solution capable of operating on both flanks, potentially providing a succession plan to Ben White – whose own long-term future has been the subject of recent speculation.

However, any deal will hinge on the player’s medical profile, with Livramento having managed just 11 Premier League starts during the 2025/26 campaign due to recurring setbacks.

For Manchester City, their ambitions of strengthening their own right-back position – despite the hugely positive performances of Matheus Nunes this season – are likely to hone in on other targets in Europe, amid links to Roma’s Wesley and Feyenoord’s Givairo Read.
