Sepp Blatter has condemned FIFA’s decision to lift Folarin Balogun’s World Cup suspension, accusing the body of indulging Donald Trump. The former FIFA president, who led from 1998 to 2015, set out his criticism in a post on X.
The ruling allows the AS Monaco and United States forward to face Belgium on Monday night in the last 16, at 2 am in France.
The 90-year-old argued that red cards are not overturned by political phone calls, but by rules, evidence and independent bodies. He added that football should not become a playground for political power.
Blatter also questioned where FIFA is heading. He has previously been scathing about the 2026 World Cup, predicting that Trump would orchestrate a publicity stunt.
He named Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump in hashtags to remove any doubt about his target. Belgium has appealed against the world governing body’s decision.
