Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic says he is taking inspiration from Sunderland’s recent recruitment as he prepares for the Premier League, declaring, “Sunderland are my guiding principle”.
He was speaking to Sportske Novosti.
Just under 12 months after a Championship play-off final win against Sheffield United, Sunderland made club-record moves for Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra, then added Robin Roefs, Brian Brobbey and winger Chemsdine Talbi. With captain Granit Xhaka and head coach Regis Le Bris, they secured Europa League qualification.
Hull followed last month with a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the play-off final to return to the top flight after 10 years. They are reportedly competing with Sunderland for Charleroi midfielder Yacine Titraoui, while Marseille are also believed to be interested.
“The club have done an excellent job of identifying, so to speak, cheaper but very good players, mainly in Belgium and France.”
“If we were to get 120m for reinforcements, that’s a dream. I don’t believe we’ll have that much money available, but we’ll see.”
“Basically, there are no more bans, we can pay transfer fees. We have a very good sporting director, Jared Dublin, who was a scout before and knows players inside out.”
