Sergio Busquets has announced his decision to retire from football at the end of the 2025 MLS season.
The Inter Miami midfielder's contract is expiring and the 37-year-old has decided to call time on his trophy-laden career after confirming his decision in a social media post.
"Hello everyone, I feel that the time has come for me to say goodbye to my career as a professional football player," Busquets said in a video.
"It has been almost 20 years enjoying this incredible story that I always dreamed of. Football has given me unique experiences in wonderful places, with the best travel companions.
"Thanks to FC Barcelona, the club of my life. There, I fulfilled my childhood dream of wearing the shirt I loved in hundreds of games. I celebrated many titles and unique moments in Camp Nou that I will never forget.
"Thanks to the Spanish national team, it was an honour to represent it so many times and celebrate achievements that will remain in my heart.
"And thanks to Inter Miami for allowing me to be part of a club where I wanted to live a new experience and play my part."
Busquets has played 45 games this season, achieving the highest number of assists in his career, reaching double digits for the first time with 10 assists. Inter Miami is on track for the MLS playoffs, and Busquets will try to end his career with yet another title.
During his career, Busquets has La Liga, the Copa del Rey, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup medals with Barcelona, while lifting the European Championship and the World Cup with Spain. So far, Busquets has a professional career spanning 970 games.
