The rumours surrounding the future of Fermin Lopez at FC Barcelona continue to intensify in the final days of the transfer market as Chelsea make a concrete push to sign him.

Even though Barça appear reluctant to sell him and the player himself has doubts about leaving, the Blues are making all efforts to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Sergio Busquets on Fermin’s future

The possible departure of Fermin to Chelsea has made headlines beyond Spain and has reached Miami, where former Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets was asked about the matter following Inter Miami’s 3-1 victory over Orlando City..

Busquets avoided giving a definitive response, but he backed Fermin’s continuity, highlighting the midfielder’s development in Barcelona’s youth system and the talent he has already shown with the first team.

“The truth is I don’t know, I’m a bit far off. All the players who come from La Masia have a different vision of what it’s like to feel the badge, to feel what it’s like to go through the youth ranks and reach your dream of being in the first team,” Busquets said.

Continuing, he added: “That said, in the end it’s each individual’s decision, they have to look out for the good of themselves, the club, and hopefully it’s good for everyone. And if he has to stay, then so much the better.”

Busquets further went on to state: “I don’t know 100% if that sale is necessary, if he wants to leave, if the club gives him permission… The only thing we’re going to do is support him and wish him all the best.”

Having come through the ranks at La Masia, Busquets went on to become one of the greatest ever midfielders in the modern era, achieving great success at Barcelona.

It is now up to Fermin to decide whether he wishes to embark on a similar path as the club legend or to take up a new challenge in the Premier League.
