Denzel Dumfries could make his return to the Inter starting line-up as Cristian Chivu’s side look to bounce back from last weekend’s derby defeat with Saturday’s visit from Atalanta in Serie A.

Kick-off is due at 14.00 GMT.

Inter sit seven points clear at the top of the Serie A standings ahead of kick-off, but fell to defeat against their city rivals Milan in a 1-0 loss in San Siro last weekend.

Atalanta are also hoping to bounce back on Saturday after suffering a 6-1 thumping at home against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night. La Dea are one of several teams still hoping for a spot in the top four, but are four points shy of the Champions League spots in seventh place ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

Inter are still without Lautaro Martinez in attack, and it remains to be seen what involvement Alessandro Bastoni will have after coming off injured during last week’s derby. Pre-match reports indicate that Bastoni is still struggling with the bruising he suffered against Milan and that Carlos Augusto is currently more likely to start on the left of the back three.

Marcus Thuram missed out on the Milan derby due to illness last weekend, but is expected to start alongside Pio Esposito in attack on Saturday.

There could also be a long-awaited return to the starting XI for Denzel Dumfries, who has missed most of the last four months with an ankle injury, but was able to make a 30-minute substitute appearance off the bench last weekend.

Atalanta were without several key players against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, including Giorgio Scalvini, who was suspended in Europe and is likely to return against Inter.

Ederson was not fit enough to play against Bayern, but could potentially return against Inter as well according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The Brazilian is part of the travelling squad, but is unlikely to be thrown straight into the starting XI.

Charles De Ketelaere and Giacomo Raspadori are not expected to return this weekend.
