Inter bring John Stones and Henrikh Mkhitaryan into the starting XI with Marcus Thuram and Francesco Pio Esposito, but Udinese are in the middle of an injury crisis.

It has been a mixed week for the Nerazzurri, who fought back from 2-0 down for a 3-2 victory over Napoli to maintain their perfect start to the Serie A season.

However, despite a strong performance, individual errors cost them dearly in the 2-1 Champions League loss to Real Madrid.

Now they need to balance rotating the squad with keeping the standard high and ensuring the fatigue of that trip doesn’t weigh on them too heavily.

Yann Bisseck, Benjamin Pavard and Lautaro Martinez are rested, with Federico Dimarco back in the squad, albeit still not 100 per cent fit.

Hakan Calhanoglu is not even on the bench due to a slight adductor issue.

Djed Spence is still not yet available, but Stones starts with Manuel Akanji returning to defence.

Udinese have already caused an upset this season by holding Como to a 1-1 draw, then beat Monza 3-2, before losing 2-1 to Lazio.

They have an injury crisis that is growing rapidly, ruling out Oumar Solet, Nicolò Zaniolo, Juan Arizala, Matteo Palma and Jakub Piotrowski.

In the case of Piotrowski, he was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia during the Lazio match and underwent ablation surgery today, similar to the Scott McTominay situation at Napoli.

There had been some concerns about Keinan Davis fitness too, but he starts with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Lennon Miller and Unai Gomez.

Udinese famously won at San Siro last season in Week 2, but Inter went on to take the Scudetto and Coppa Italia Double.
