Another action-packed weekend of Serie A football is just around the corner, as Roma prepare to host Napoli in an early Scudetto six-pointer, Milan and Lazio prepare to face each other twice within four days, while Inter and Juventus aim for redemption after slips in Week 12.

Here’s what’s in store in Serie A this weekend.

Roma vs. Napoli: Super Sunday

Sunday’s headline fixture sees the current Serie A leaders, Roma, host the reigning champions, Napoli, at the Stadio Olimpico, kicking off at 19.45 GMT.

The Giallorossi have been on impressive form since the appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini in the summer, and have won four in a row across all competitions including a 2-1 win over Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday evening. The Danish side had enjoyed a 100% win record in Europe prior to their match against Roma.

Napoli were also victorious in Europe midweek, defeating Qarabag 2-0 at the Stadio Maradona thanks largely to the performance of the continually impressive Scott McTominay.

Injury concerns are beginning to stack up for Antonio Conte, though, as Billy Gilmour is reportedly heading for surgery and could be unavailable for around six weeks, on top of the four weeks that he has already missed.

Kevin De Bruyne and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa are also unlikely to return before the new year, while Romelu Lukaku is not back from his long-term injury yet, either.

Encouragingly for Antonio Conte’s side, they have been the more successful of the two sides in this fixture in recent years. Roma have only won one of their last 10 the Partenopei, four have ended in draws, and five have ended in victories for Napoli.

Milan are currently second in the Serie A table after thanks to their 1-0 Derby della Madonnina victory against city rivals Inter last weekend. They will hit top spot in Serie A if they beat Lazio on Saturday, and could hold onto that position if Napoli do them a favour and stop Roma on Sunday evening.

Saturday will bring the first of two games between Milan and Lazio within the space of four days. The two teams will meet in San Siro in Serie A, before heading to the capital to play each other again in the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday night.

Pre-match reports indicate that Christian Pulisic is likely to miss the first game at least due to a muscular injury, and with Santiago Gimenez also unavailable, Christopher Nkunku is in line to come into the starting XI to partner Rafael Leao up front.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also an option, and if Massimiliano Allegri does go with the Englishman alongside Leao, that would be his eighth different combination of strikers so far this season.

Inter and Juventus plan to bounce back

Inter are hoping to bounce back after back-to-back defeats over the last week. They were defeated 1-0 by Milan in Serie A last weekend, and were beaten 2-1 by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in Spain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Nerazzurri sit in fourth place in both tables, and are only three points off the lead in both competitions as well.

Despite their encouraging position, and despite the fact that the team have not performed badly in recent weeks, there has been some criticism of Cristian Chivu this week, pointing at his record in big matches this season with defeats against Juventus, Napoli, Milan and Atletico already on his record.

A test away against Pisa awaits in Serie A. Although Alberto Gilardino’s side sit in 16th place in the league table, they are currently six games unbeaten with five draws and one win over that period.

Inter are unable to reach the top of the Serie A table this weekend, but could potentially move within a point of the summit depending on results elsewhere.

It was an encouraging week for Juventus, who picked up their first Champions League win of the season away against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday night.

The Bianconeri are unbeaten in their five matches following the appointment of Luciano Spalletti, but have drawn their last two in Serie A, against Fiorentina and Torino, which has seen them slip down to seventh place in the table.

They will host Cagliari at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening and will be aiming for maximum points.

Bologna and Como on Champions League push

Fifth and Sixth place in the Serie A table is currently occupied by the ‘surprise’ packages of Bologna and Como, both of whom are mounting an early push for a Champions League place.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side are full of confidence following a 4-1 thumping of RB Salzburg in the Europa League on Thursday night, and will be looking to extend their 12-game unbeaten run against Cremonese in Serie A on Monday night.

Como are 11 games unbeaten themselves, and have not lost in any competition since their 1-0 defeat by Bologna at the end of August. They are fresh off a 5-1 hammering of Torino and have an opportunity to increase their points tally at home against Sassuolo on Friday evening.
