Sassuolo fought back from two goals down to salvage a point in their dramatic meeting with AC Milan on matchday seven. Elsewhere, Napoli moved into the top three of the Serie A table with a 3-1 away victory over Genoa.

Sassuolo rescue point

Sassuolo staged a comeback from two goals down to clinch a 2-2 draw against 10-player AC Milan. Half-time substitute Park Soo-jeong headed Milan into the lead inside the opening three minutes of the second period. Just moments later, Evelyn Ijeh drove a low shot past Solène Durand to double the home side’s advantage. At that stage, Sassuolo seemed down and out, but they were given a boost when Chanté Dompig was dismissed with over half an hour to play. The referee ruled the forward had made a reckless challenge in her bid to win the ball back following a heavy touch.

With the numerical advantage in Sassuolo’s favour, Lana Clelland kick-started the fightback with a stunning strike following a short corner. Clelland went on to play a key role in her side’s 96th-minute equaliser. The 32-year-old whipped an inviting free-kick into the box for Daniela Sabatino to send her glancing header into the far corner. The late leveller denied AC Milan a third consecutive home victory.

Napoli climb into third spot

After avoiding relegation last term, Napoli are operating near the top end of the Serie A table in 2025-26. They sealed a second consecutive victory in their away clash with Genoa, although they had to come from behind after conceding from an early penalty. Cecilie Fløe found the net in the opening stages of the second period to cancel out Norma Cinotti’s opener. Hanna Barker then floated a ball in off the far post to turn the game in Napoli’s favour. Any doubts over the result were quashed by Mali Trøan’s stoppage-time effort. The 25-year-old fired home from Melissa Bellucci’s flick to seal an impressive 3-1 success for the visitors.

Roma, Juve clinch narrow victories

Roma bounced back from their frustrating Champions League draw against Leuven with a narrow win in their away meeting with Como. The visitors broke the deadlock in the closing stages of the first period. Lucia Di Guglielmo headed a deep corner back into the danger zone for Evelyne Viens to sweep home. Como were given the chance to respond in the 64th minute when Annalena Rieke was penalised for a trip in the box. However, Nadine Nischler failed to capitalise on the opportunity, seeing her spot-kick pushed over the bar, as Rachele Baldi’s quick reactions protected Roma’s slender advantage. The away side saw out the remainder of the contest to head into the international break with a five-point lead at the top of the table.

Elsewhere, Juventus left it late to take maximum points from their home clash with Fiorentina. The contest looked set to finish goalless until Estela Carbonell found the net in the second minute of stoppage time. The former Levante defender pounced on a loose ball to drive a low shot into the far corner. Carbonell’s first Juventus goal condemned Fiorentina to their first defeat since the opening day of the Serie A season.

Wullaert ends Inter’s long wait for a win

Meanwhile, Inter dispatched Lazio to clinch their first league victory since matchday one. Tessa Wullaert opened the scoring in the 55th minute, firing home after latching onto Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir’s neat through ball. The pair combined again for Wullaert to grab her second goal just after the hour mark. Lazio’s miserable afternoon was compounded when Martina Piemonte saw her late penalty pushed onto the bar by Cecilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir, who claimed her third clean sheet of the Serie A season.

Parma draw again

Parma had to settle for another draw after mustering just one shot on target in their away meeting with Ternana. They have now seen four of their last five matches finish all square, meaning they have drawn more games than any other side in the division. As for basement Ternana, they remain two points adrift from safety, although they will be pleased with the fact that they have recorded back-to-back clean sheets.

Did you know?

Inter’s 2-0 win against Lazio represented their first away victory of the Serie A season. Sassuolo, Parma and Genoa are now the only teams yet to win an away game in the top flight this term.

Best Serie A goal of matchday seven

Clelland gets our pick for best goal of the weekend. After receiving the ball from a short corner, the Sassuolo star let fly from the left corner of the box, rifling it in off the underside of the crossbar to give her side a crucial foothold.
