Ruben Amorim claims Benjamin Sesko’s form is not his ‘biggest concern’ after the striker suffered a knee injury in the eventful draw at Tottenham.
Sesko was introduced on the hour mark as Manchester United looked to close out victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but his injury coincided with Spurs overturning the deficit to lead in stoppage time, before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point for the visitors.
The 22-year-old was also guilty of missing some good chances during his half-hour cameo but Amorim’s focus was on the injury he sustained rather than his form in front of goal.
“I think that is not the biggest concern now,” he explained.
“That happened in the same way that he is not scoring and then he scores two goals in the next two games [Brentford and Sunderland], so that happens, especially with a striker.
“I’m more concerned with an injury because it’s in the knee and I don’t know. We need Ben to be a better team.”
United will lose Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui to the Africa Cup of Nations in December and Amorim confirmed that the club will be active in January to try and cover for their absences.
Sesko’s knee injury could also influence transfer plans, with Amorim revealing: “We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben.
“Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew. Then you can prepare that in the summer, but then you have a lot of players in the summer who are not going to play because it’s one game per week. So the management of that situation is going to be hard.
“But let’s see when the window is open, if we can improve the team and try to prepare something that happened. Until then, we have to take the chance.”
