Sevilla endured a difficult evening at the Spotify Camp Nou as Barcelona secured an emphatic 5-2 victory in front of their home supporters.
The result marked a strong response from Barcelona after suffering a heavy defeat in the previous meeting between the two teams earlier in the season.
On that occasion, Sevilla had dominated the Catalan side with an impressive 4-1 victory.
This time, however, the situation was very different, with Barcelona taking control of the game early and never allowing their opponents to recover.
After the match, Sevilla manager Matias Almeyda acknowledged that his side struggled to compete once Barcelona gained momentum.
“That’s what happens if you’re not at your best. With two penalties against us and Barcelona leading 2-0, it’s almost impossible to come back.
“They’re playing to win the title, and we’re playing for something else,” he began.
A key talking point from the match was the two penalties awarded to Barcelona, both of which were calmly converted by Raphinha.
The decisions had a major impact on the direction of the game, giving the hosts a comfortable advantage.
When asked about those incidents, Almeyda chose not to directly criticise the referee but admitted that the penalties had a decisive influence on the match.

“I’d rather not comment. If they were called, it’s because the referee saw a penalty. We’re not surprised by anything they do.
“That’s why they’re in first place and winning by a landslide. But those two penalties completely changed the course of both games,” Almeyda added.
The Sevilla manager also explained that his team attempted to replicate the approach that had worked so effectively during their previous victory over Barcelona.
However, the circumstances of this match quickly altered those plans.
“We tried to do the same thing with different players, but tactically everything changed because of those two penalties.”
Another point discussed after the match was Hansi Flick’s decision to leave Lamine Yamal out of the starting lineup.
Almeyda suggested that Barcelona’s busy schedule likely influenced that decision, noting the number of matches the Catalan club has played in a short period of time.
“They’ve played four games in 11 days and have another major tournament coming up.
“Those rotations were to be expected, but even so, they have a lot of quality and depth, and they can make an impact with any player,” he concluded.
