Sevilla are targeting Antonio Raíllo as they press on with a defensive rebuild for next season. The RCD Mallorca captain is emerging as a leading option to strengthen the back line.
ABC de Sevilla reports that initial contact has been made with the 34-year-old’s camp to gauge his willingness to move. Planning is advanced, with the official announcement of Arouna Sangante’s free move from Le Havre expected after Juan Iglesias. The agreement was closed months ago under former sporting director Antonio Cordón.
Once Sangante is confirmed, the recruitment department led by José Ignacio Navarro will focus on Raíllo. The centre-back would view a switch favourably after Mallorca’s relegation to LaLiga Hypermotion, although any move depends on Sevilla first moving out one or more defenders.
To create room, the club aims to find exits for high earners Tanguy Nianzou or Marcao, which would ease the salary cap. Offers will also be considered for Fábio Cardoso and Federico Gattoni, though their profiles currently attract limited interest.
Raíllo has been a mainstay at Son Moix since 2016 and is under contract until June 2027, having come through Real Betis’s academy. He impressed under Luis García Plaza between 2020 and 2022, a factor in the Madrid-born coach now requesting his signing.
At 1.87 metres, he is a robust defender with strong aerial ability. His leadership could help fill the void in the dressing room after César Azpilicueta announced his retirement.
