Zona Mixta reports that Matías Almeyda’s dismissal is imminent after the damaging defeat to Valencia, with internal pressure outweighing president Del Nido Carrasco’s recent support.
The Argentinian cut a dejected figure on Movistar+, saying that if leaving was the solution he had no problem.
Sevilla sit 15th in LaLiga on 31 points, only 3 clear of relegation, with recent wins for Elche and Deportivo Alavés tightening the picture.
They own the league’s most porous defence with 49 conceded, one more than bottom club Real Oviedo, and were knocked out early in the cup by Alavés. Patience with Almeyda has frayed, and he would depart with a LaLiga record of 8 wins, 7 losses and 14 draws.
The club are now trawling the market for out-of-work managers. Carrusel Deportivo has said José Bordalás offered himself last summer but was rejected as an uncomfortable profile, given his readiness to criticise recruitment planning.
A shortlist to replace Almeyda features Diego Martínez, Manolo Jiménez and Luis García Plaza, per El Desmarque and Diario de Sevilla. Radio Marca adds that initial formal contacts over García Plaza have already taken place, with nine matches left and nothing yet agreed.
