Sevilla FC are exploring a move for Grêmio teenager Gabriel Mec, with formal enquiries lodged, according to ESPN Brasil. The 18-year-old playmaker has sparked a bidding race across Europe.

Newcastle United and Villarreal CF have also acted, while Chelsea FC are keeping tabs. Sevilla face fierce competition to land one of Brazil’s most talked-about prospects.

His price is currently put at 16-20 million euros, a figure that complicates Sevilla’s pursuit. A loan looks the most viable route for the Nervión club.

An ambidextrous attacking midfielder, Mec has accelerated through Grêmio’s ranks, shining at under-17 and under-20 level before debuting for the first team at 16. He has earned minutes this season primarily as an impact substitute in Brazil’s Serie A and continental competitions, and has featured for Brazil’s youth sides.

He brings quick feet, sharp vision and the ability to unbalance defences from wide or central areas. While his physique and finishing still need work in elite football, his upside is significant.

Finances remain the biggest hurdle. Grêmio value him at a minimum 15 million euros and Sevilla’s constraints leave them battling England’s financial muscle. A summer move is possible, and Sevilla intend to stay in the race over the coming months.
