Sevilla’s Patrik Mercado transfer saga nearing a decision | OneFootball

Sevilla’s pursuit of Patrik Mercado is edging towards a decision, with his status hinging on medical clearance. The prevailing sense around the club is that the move may not go through.

After confirming the arrivals of Juan Iglesias, Jon Guridi and Arouna Sangante, attention has returned to the Independiente del Valle midfielder. According to La Colina De Nervion, he has not yet undergone a medical with Sevilla, and while internal feeling points to a late veto after tests in Seville, Independiente del Valle insist the February pre-agreement must be honoured.

That initial deal, valued at around six million euros, was due to take effect immediately after the World Cup. Soon afterwards, Mercado suffered a severe injury against Técnico Universitario in LigaPro, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee and facing an absence until almost next Christmas.

The midfielder is expected to travel to Seville shortly for club assessments.

Born in Tena on 31 July 2003, Mercado joined Independiente del Valle’s academy aged 10 and debuted in 2022. He quickly established himself and helped win the LigaPro, Copa Sudamericana, Recopa Sudamericana and Supercopa de Ecuador. He was named the 2025 LigaPro player of the season, operating as a holding or right-sided midfielder with technique, vision and late runs from deep.

In Ecuador it had been widely assumed he would move to Europe soon, but the knee injury has complicated his fit within Sevilla’s plans.
