Voted for by their fellow professionals, the duo have made the six-player shortlist alongside Arsenal’s Alessia Russo, Aston Villa’s Kirsty Hanson, Chelsea’s Lauren James and Manchester United’s Jess Park.

Shaw, Golden Boot winner for a record third successive season, grabbed 21 goals in 22 league matches for the Blues to match her best WSL tally across a single campaign.

Already named FWA Footballer of the Year and Etihad Player of the Season, the Jamaican’s four assists also helped her reach 100 WSL goal contributions, becoming only the sixth player in history to do so.

Sensationally announcing a four-year contract extension on the mic at Co-op Live during Manchester City’s trophy parade, City’s number nine also became the first player in our professional history to reach 100 goals when firing home the first of four against Aston Villa in December 2025.

She’s now been shortlisted for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in three of the last four seasons, winning in 2023/24, and has also figured in the PFA WSL Team of the Year twice.

This is also the third time Hasegawa has been shortlisted for the prestigious Player of the Year award, with the Japan international once again a key figure in our march to the WSL title.

The winner will be announced at the PFA awards ceremony on Tuesday 25 August.

A subtle tweak to City’s formation by Andrée Jeglertz has allowed the midfielder to provide a greater attacking impetus, and the results speak for themselves.

Ranking second in the WSL for passes into the final third and joint-fourth for big chances created, Hasegawa has enjoyed her best season to date in terms of goal contributions.

She’s still excelled defensively though, ending the campaign with the second highest amount of interceptions.

Like Shaw, she’s unquestionably one of the finest players in her position in world football, and has now been shortlisted for this award in three successive seasons, on the back of making three PFA WSL Team of the Year squads in a row.

Everyone at City would like to congratulate Bunny and Yui for making the PFA Players’ Player of the Year shortlist.
