Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw says our state-of-the-art First Team Facility demonstrates the Club’s investment in Women’s football and provides the perfect platform for City to build on a special 2025/26.
The Jamaican – our record goalscorer and a three-time WSL Golden Boot winner - has signed a fresh four-year contract that will keep her at the Joie Stadium until 2030.
One of the finest attackers in world football, her fresh commitment is a real statement of intent from the Club as we look to defend the WSL and FA Cup and compete in Europe across 2026/27.
It’s an exciting time for City, with the team’s official move into the new Women’s First Team building last month another example of that upward trajectory.
A world class facility designed specifically for Andrée Jeglertz’s side, Shaw believes it’s already making a huge impact.
“It’s massive. You can tell the owners of the Club are really interested and investing in Women’s football,” she said.
“If you come by our facility, our building, you can tell the players are happy. We have our own space, we have our own environment to try to be the best that we can be.
“Obviously, now we’re not limited to staying in this space, it’s an open space and we see our coaches more often and that’s something we spoke about, seeing people more.
“I think just having that environment helps us to achieve as much as possible, and I think that with that, hopefully we can achieve even more.”
With Shaw’s deal set to expire this summer, there were naturally plenty of suitors vying for her signature in the final months of the 2025/26 campaign.
Despite all that noise, the Jamaican continued to perform on the pitch for the Blues, with her 27 goals and eight assists across all competitions seeing her once again win the WSL Golden Boot as well as being named WSL Player of the Season, Etihad Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year.
Our number nine led the line with distinction, also opening the scoring in our FA Cup final triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion, which completed a WSL and FA Cup double for the first time in our history.
And Shaw said her desire to help City bring home silverware was an important factor in ignoring the speculation and delivering when it mattered.
She added: “I’ve always stayed true to myself, and I’ve always focused on what I can control, and that’s my performances.
“And the people around me as well, obviously before everything, we had two big objectives which was to win the league and FA Cup and it’s been a while, so I put whatever I was going through in the back of my mind because I wanted to ultimately win the league and the FA Cup.
“I think just putting all my focus and energy into that definitely helped me because I knew that okay, after the next game there’s another one and then a bigger game and a bigger game.
“Obviously, there’s going to be a lot of opinions and people are going to say a lot of stuff, but for me, like I said, I stayed true to myself and who I am, and I know that once I do that, everything else will work out for itself.”
