The Blades could lose two of their prized assets in what is set to be a critical transfer window

Sheffield United have had a 12-month period to forget in the Championship, and they are now set for what looks to be a critical and busy period in pre-season and the upcoming summer transfer window.

It has been well-documented that this time last year, the Blades were on the cusp of earning an instant return to the Premier League, all for those hopes and dreams to fizzle out in the play-off final versus Sunderland at Wembley Stadium.

Since then, it has been a tough task for all associated with the club to get it back to a position which many expected, and that has been reflected by their current mid-table position in the second tier, as Chris Wilder, to an extent, has started to repair the damage done throughout a chaotic summer in which he was initially, and controversially, replaced by Ruben Selles.

The final weeks of the current campaign for the 58-year-old, who is now well and truly in the thick of a third managerial spell in charge of his boyhood club, are all about gathering momentum ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, during which a newly-formatted play-off system will also be introduced.

As well as changing the mood at Bramall Lane between players, management and the supporters, Wilder has already revealed that a major rebuilding job will occur in S2 before the new season gets underway on 14th August.

At present, Gus Hamer and Tyrese Campbell are only under contract at the club until the end of next season, and there are major question marks over the duo's respective futures, as well as Sydie Peck.

It has now emerged that Peck and Hamer are two players United are preparing to offload in the upcoming window, and Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy, from the Blades Ramble YouTube channel, has provided his instant reaction.

Sheffield United stance given on potential Gus Hamer, Sydie Peck double exit at Bramall Lane

Hamer and Peck have been the subject of intense transfer speculation at Bramall Lane for some time now, with the former still hitting respectable numbers despite perhaps not reaching the same standard of overall performance levels which saw him named as Championship Player of the Season for 2024/25.

Wilder recently admitted that talks are ongoing with the Dutch-Brazilian and his representatives over a potential new contract, whilst Peck is contracted until the summer of 2028 as things stand.

However, given the fact that parachute payments are also drying up in this part of the Steel City, Jimmy isn't surprised that both players continue to dominate headlines when it comes to expected outgoings.

"It doesn't surprise me, to be honest," Jimmy told FLW. "It's something we've been talking about for a while.

"I think Gus Hamer's contract situation, unless he signs a new deal - which is looking increasingly unlikely - because we certainly won't be able to offer him an increase. Whether we'll be able to match his current terms will be something to think about.

"With us now not being in receipt of parachute payments, he's probably got one good move left in him, and with 12 months left on his deal, I think we'll probably cash in," he claimed.

"We've done that before with players like Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge when they've come to their last year, rather than lose them for nothing. So, I think Gus Hamer could go.

"Sydie Peck would be very sought-after as well. We know he's got Premier League admirers and is an England Under-21s international," Jimmy explained.

"I think, combined, you're probably looking at something like, Gus (Hamer) goes for £8-10m if we're very lucky, and with Sydie (Peck), I think we'd be looking at between £12-15m.

Sheffield United would be frustrated if they made a loss on Gus Hamer

Hamer's influence and ability during a mixed period at Bramall Lane cannot be underestimated, and on the face of it, it has been worth the £15m sum paid to Coventry City three years ago when it comes to on-pitch matters.

However, those of a United persuasion would be extremely frustrated if the club were to make a loss on his services, which now looks set to be likely if contract terms cannot be agreed between the two parties.

Meanwhile, Peck's development after breaking into the first-team fold has been remarkable, and having been linked with moves to West Ham United previously, it would be no surprise to see top-flight interest re-emerge in the 21-year-old this summer.

As Jimmy alluded to, though, the Blades must give themselves the best possible chance to eke out as much money as possible from any potential suitors, rather than accepting the first offer which comes their way.
