Sheffield United are looking to bounce back from losing in the Championship play-off final, and fresh attacking options appear to be at the top of the priority list for Chris Wilder this summer.

A name gaining traction is Peterborough United's Kwame Poku, a player attracting plenty of attention across the EFL and even north of the border.

Sheffield United transfer news: Kwame Poku drawing Blades' attention

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Sheffield United are among the clubs pursuing a deal for Peterborough star Kwame Poku.

Recently promoted Birmingham City have already tabled a contract offer, while Sunderland, fresh off their Premier League promotion gained at the expense of the Blades, are also monitoring the situation closely.

The 23-year-old is one of the hottest properties in League One this summer after notching 12 goals and 8 assists in 27 appearances during an otherwise disappointing campaign for Posh.

With Celtic and Rangers also watching closely, competition for his signature will be fierce. However, with the forward out of contract, a move could trigger just a compensation fee, making Poku a valuable and potentially affordable option, albeit one whose wages could rise due to demand.

When asked about the possibility of Poku joining Sheffield United, FLW's Blades fan pundit Jimmy believes that the winger would be a strong addition, especially considering the gap left by the departing Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

"Would fit in nicely" - Sheffield United fan backs Poku to replace Rak-Sakyi

"Kwame Poku is an excellent player that we like," Jimmy told FLW. "And if we are going to continue with this 4-2-3-1 formation, we need a right-winger because we simply haven't got that in the squad at the moment, particularly with Rak-Sakyi going back."

"Rak-Sakyi, I think, in my opinion, was a disappointing signing in the end. We saw a couple of glimpses of the potential he was lauded for, but never really produced consistently."

Jimmy also highlighted the importance of securing players on permanent deals, saying: "The fact that Poku would be coming on a permanent basis is a huge bonus. It's another asset that you're adding to the squad."

However, even though there may be no transfer fee involved, Jimmy is realistic about the costs: "As much as it would be a good signing, I am not too sure as to how much of a bargain it would be. You're saving on the fee, but with the high level of interest, his wages are going to be high."

"It has similar vibes to the Callum O'Hare deal, technically a free transfer but with a lot of money involved."

Still, there is plenty of understandable excitement at the prospect: "He would fit into our side very nicely, also with his old buddy Harrison Burrows from Peterborough as well."

Sheffield United must act fast as Poku interest grows

With Birmingham City already pitching their offer directly to Poku, and Sunderland preparing to strengthen following their Premier League return, Sheffield United will need to act decisively if they are serious about landing the winger.

With Rak-Sakyi's loan not leading to a permanent stay, a consistent and dynamic right-sided attacker is exactly what Chris Wilder's squad requires. And, if Poku can translate his League One form to the Championship, it's a move that could pay off in a big way.
