Bristol City host Sheffield United at Ashton Gate on Thursday, in the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-final. The Robins finished the regular season on 68 points in sixth place, finishing 22 points behind the Blades in third.

Despite the perceived gap in quality between the two sides given their league positions, neither are in particularly good form going into this, so it is anyone's guess as to who will turn up over the two legs.

United have only won two of their last five games, missing out on the automatics after a close battle with Burnley and Leeds United, while Bristol City just about held onto their play-off spot thanks to other results going their way on the final day, after one win in their last five.

Sheffield United fearing facing Scott Twine

As these two teams have already played each other twice in the league, they know a fair bit about one another. The Blades hold the upper hand in the head-to-head battles, winning 2-1 away at Ashton Gate and drawing 1-1 at Bramall Lane.

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy (from Blades Ramble), named Scott Twine as his choice for the Robins' most dangerous player, pointing to his set-piece ability and flair.

"The obvious danger man for Bristol City, for me, is Scott Twine, because he is the one that you see in the headlines in terms of having the moments," Jimmy told FLW.

"He's very dangerous from free-kicks, he can make something happen. A flair player that catches the eye, often for those who don't watch them week in, week out, Scott Twine will be the one."

Jimmy pointed out that midfielder Max Bird could also pose a threat to the Blades, saying that the Bristol City fans that he has spoken to have cited Bird as the man who keeps things going in the middle.

"Having spoken to some Robins fans prior to the game, Max Bird is the man that makes everything tick, apparently. So I'm interested to see what sort of threat they bring."

Sheffield United's big players' performance is key

Given the points gap between the two teams and the fact that the Blades were in the Premier League as recently as last season, many do expect Chris Wilder's side to prove too strong for their opponents.

Gus Hamer and Vini Souza, to name a couple, are players who could easily be plying their trade in the top division and a large portion of United's squad have a good amount of Premier League experience under their belts.

Jimmy echoed this sentiment, insisting that however good City are, as long as United perform, they should be fine.

He said: "It is more a concern of whether Sheffield United's best players turn up, because if they do then I'm confident that we will win. But we also have to respect what they will bring. It will be a really interesting game. As long as we don't get beat at Ashton Gate, I'll be happy."
