FLW's Blades Fan Pundit shares his thoughts on the prospect of signing Kalvin Phillips permanently
Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips joined Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the season in February.
Upon arriving in South Yorkshire, Phillips himself admitted that he wanted to "play as many games as possible" - which hasn’t been the case at all.
The 30-year-old, who cost City £45m after his Leeds United exit, has only played 161 minutes of Championship football so far.
With Blades' manager Chris Wilder expecting the midfielder back after the international break due to a minor operation, there is hope that his game time improves during the run-in.
However, there's not too much hope that Phillips becomes a permanent United player come the start of next season...

FLW’s Sheffield United Fan Pundit, Jimmy from Blades Ramble, has his say on the club’s prospects of securing a permanent transfer for on-loan Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.
Jimmy said, "No, I don’t think we’ve got a chance of signing him. I think it’s a very slim chance of signing Kalvin Phillips permanently.
"He’s just on too much money, we have to be realistic with where we are. We have run out of parachute payments now, and I think we’ll have to be a lot more sensible with some of the signings we make," the Fan Pundit added.
When at Manchester City, Phillips was earning an estimated £150k per week, as per Capology. The same estimated wage site has his United wages at £45k per week, but you can imagine the club wouldn't be able to afford that post-parachute payments.
Also, Blades are indeed set to be without parachute payments next season - which is their first time without them since 18/19.

Jimmy did claim that despite Sheffield United having to be more ‘careful’ with where their money goes, there could still be a conversation to happen with Phillips about signing permanently.
"Look, there’s a chance he terminates his contract at City and then there might be a conversation, because we do work for him geographically, from what I understand, and obviously some of his friends are here, and there’s a strong belief that he could re-find some of his form at Sheffield United," Jimmy explained.
Additionally, reports from The Yorkshire Post indicate Phillips wishes to sever ties with City by mutual consent when the season finishes. This also keeps faint hopes alive for Blades.
Jimmy concluded his assessment by saying, "So it depends on what he wants for his career really. But, at the moment, with the wages that he’s on, there’s no real chance that we get a permanent deal over the line for Kalvin Phillips. Unless he takes a significant, significant drop."
Ultimately, Phillips hasn't played 30+ games in a season since 20/21, in which he was still a Leeds player. So, the lack of game time at Sheffield United isn't something new, but will surely be considered if the club want him on a permanent deal.
What's more concerning for Jimmy is the amount of money the player is estimated to be earning. Yes, it remains to be seen how much the midfielder is actually earning per week, but if it's anything like the aforementioned sums, then Blades might be forced to look elsewhere anyway.
