Officials at Sheffield United are plotting another move for out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips during the upcoming summer market.
The former Leeds United star has endured a turbulent few seasons since his blockbuster £42 million move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022.
Following indifferent loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich Town, Phillips appears to have finally found a settled environment under Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane, with his winter arrival seen as a major coup for the Championship side.
The move also comes at a time of significant transition for Manchester City, with newly-appointed Director of Football Hugo Viana reportedly looking to make several changes to existing midfield names to facilitate a further rebuild.
While Phillips remains under contract in Manchester until June 2028, his immediate future seems destined to remain away from the Premier League giants as they chase a historic domestic cup double in the final weeks of the campaign.
Now, according to the information of The Sheffield Star’s Danny Hall, Sheffield United will explore the possibility of re-signing Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City in the summer.
From the midfielder’s side, it is reported that Phillips is also keen on returning to Bramall Lane again for next season, having arrived at the club during the most recent January market for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
Furthermore, it is stated that Sheffield United coaching staff are said to be impressed with Kalvin Phillips’ attitude since joining the Blades.
For Sheffield United, securing Phillips for a full campaign would provide a much-needed experienced presence as they look to mount a serious rebuild of their ambitions and perhaps a push towards the top places of the Championship ranks next season.

Manager Chris Wilder has frequently praised the midfielder’s mentality, perhaps noting internally that his experience in Manchester City’s 2023 Treble-winning squad could be invaluable to younger members of the dressing room.
As the 2025/26 season enters its final weeks, all eyes will be on how Manchester City handle their ‘forgotten’ players, but with Phillips enjoying his football in South Yorkshire and those at the Etihad Stadium also having one eye on trimming their wage bill, another loan could be a logical solution for all involved.
