Sheffield Wednesday have been hit with a 12-point deduction after filing a notice to appoint an administrator.
The Owls faced a winding-up petition over a tax bill to HMRC, which would have increased pressure on owner Dejphon Chansiri.
The club have now filed a notice to appoint an administrator at the Insolvency and Companies Court, per the BBC.
Chansiri’s decade-long ownership of the club will now end. However, the points deduction will likely result in relegation to League One at the end of the season.
Wednesday are currently under five separate embargoes with the English Football League (EFL) over failure to pay wages on time in five of the past seven months.
Manager Danny Rohl, who stabilised the club after taking over from Xisco Munoz in 2023, left the club in July.
His assistant Henrik Pedersen was appointed as his successor before the season began, but results have been dreadful under him.
Wednesday are bottom of the Championship table after winning just one of their 11 matches.
Following draws with Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City, the Owls have lost their last three league fixtures to Coventry City, Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough.
