Sheffield Wednesday's Svante Ingelsson is being linked with a move away from Hillsborough this summer, as the Owls prepare for life in League One.

Sheffield Wednesday are set for an interesting summer ahead, with the Owls preparing for life back in League One, with their relegation from the Championship being confirmed earlier this year.

It's been a tough season for the club's supporters to sit through, and they'll be pleased to have ended this year's league campaign on a high, as they beat West Brom at Hillsborough on the final day of the season.

More importantly, it was a day of celebration, as US businessman David Storch completed his takeover of the club, which brought an end to months of uncertainty.

The 15-point deduction that was rumoured to be in place if Storch's takeover was complete was waived as well, and so Sheffield Wednesday will have one eye on winning promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking this term.

Sheffield Wednesday have recently announced their retained list for the upcoming 2026/27 campaign in League One, and there weren't too many surprises included.

The likes of Dominic Iorfa and Nathaniel Chalobah are the high-profile departures, whilst the club have exercised options to extend the contracts of the likes of Jamal Lowe and Svante Ingelsson.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Ingelsson has had his contract extended by the club for a further year, as the club held the option to exercise that in his previous deal.

However, his future with the Owls still remains unclear, the Sheffield Star now recently revealed that Championship stalwart Stoke City are keen on signing the Swede.

Ingelsson has been a key member of Henrik Pedersen's squad in the 2025/26 season, making 41 appearances in all competitions for the Owls this term.

He's been with the club since 2024, having previously been on the books with Hansa Rostock, and he was one of the few bright sparks in a frustrating season for Sheffield Wednesday.

But there is now heavy interest coming from Staffordshire, with Potters boss Mark Robins keen to bring the left-footed maestro to the bet365 Stadium.

Could Svante Ingelsson be tempted by a move to Stoke?

Ingelsson will have one year remaining on his contract with Sheffield Wednesday after the club took up their option to extend his stay, but there's still going to be questions asked as to whether he'll stick around.

The 27-year-old is likely to be wanting to play his football at the highest level possible, and Stoke City are set for another season in the Championship, which could tempt him.

The Potters have recently announced that Lewis Baker is leaving the club when his contract reaches a conclusion this summer, and so they're clearly keen to add reinforcements in the midfield to their squad at the earliest of opportunities.

Ingelsson could be a smart signing as well, as you would imagine that a deal wouldn't cost too much for Stoke, and if the former Swedish youth international was to push for a move away from Sheffield Wednesday this summer, it could speed up negotiations.

He's good enough to feature in the Championship on a regular basis, and it'll be interesting to see how much Sheffield Wednesday value the midfielder at this summer.
