Sheffield Wednesday are targeting two Championship attackers

After a torrid campaign last season, Sheffield Wednesday have newfound optimism going into the new term following the club's purchase by David Storch's Arise Capital Partners.

Wednesday were deducted a total of 18 points last season and ended up finishing bottom of the Championship on zero points which subsequently saw the Owls relegated to League One.

However, fresh investment at Hillsborough marks an opportunity to make a splash in the transfer market this summer as they look to bounce back into the second tier as quickly as possible.

Henrik Pedersen has already had defender Ricardo Santos added to his squad from Swansea City while it looks as though further new additions may be imminent, with deals for Sil Swinkels, Tayo Adaramola and Callum Slattery all thought to be close.

Henrik Pedersen's side have been frequently linked with a host of different players so far this summer, with some rumours particularly exciting. They are now reportedly looking to bring in two goalscorers from the Championship.

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday have placed Blackburn Rovers' Japanese striker Yuki Ohashi on their list of transfer targets this summer and are also in the race for Wrexham attacking midfielder Davis Keillor-Dunn, alongside promotion rivals Leicester City.

Ohashi made the move to Lancashire two years ago from Sanfrecce Hiroshima and has scored 20 goals and registered five assists in 86 appearances at Ewood Park. The 29-year-old also has two caps for Japan.

10 of those goals were scored last season as Blackburn avoided relegation by five points and new boss Tony Mowbray will be looking to sculpt the squad he has inherited in his vision as the summer goes on.

Ohashi currently has one year left on his contract at Rovers and it is currently unclear how significant a fee Wednesday would have to pay to lure the striker away from Blackburn.

Meanwhile, Keillor-Dunn made just six Championship appearances for Wrexham following his mid-season move from Barnsley last term. However, the 28-year-old has proven himself to be prolific at League One level, having produced 31 goals and six assists in 66 league matches for the Tykes over the course of his season-and-a-half at Oakwell.

Wednesday showing ambition in the transfer market

Seeing both players linked with a move to Hillsborough will no doubt be very exciting for Sheffield Wednesday fans, especially after a season full of turmoil last year.

In Ohashi, Wednesday would be signing an international forward who has proven himself at Championship level while Keillor-Dunn has proven to be one of the best goalscorers in the third and fourth tiers.

The Wrexham man played a key role in getting Mansfield Town promoted to League One in the 2023/24 season, producing 22 goals and nine assists in 46 matches and was subsequently named League Two Player of the Season.

Wednesday have already made their first moves in the transfer market by signing Santos while it was important to tie down left-back Max Lowe to a new contract. However, plotting moves for Championship attackers undoubtedly signals ambition and intent to get promoted at the first attempt.
