Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a move for Wrexham midfielder George Dobson in case Jayson Molumby heads to North Wales from West Brom

Sheffield Wednesday have been one of, if not the most active clubs in the EFL during this summer's transfer window thus far, as the rebuilding process at Hillsborough doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Following their return to League One after a disastrous year in the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday are in the process of rebuilding their squad from the ground up, with Danish head coach Henrik Pedersen tasked with spearheading the club's charge back to the Championship.

12 players have come through the doors in South Yorkshire thus far, including the likes of Barry Bannan, Billy Mitchell, and Callum Slattery, and that doesn't appear to be showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Bannan, Mitchell, and Slattery are expected to jostle for places in the middle of the park, but Wednesday and Pedersen don't appear to be fully content with their options in that area of the pitch just yet, and could make a move for a midfielder who won promotion to the second tier just over a year ago.

According to Darren Witcoop via X, Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up a move for Wrexham midfielder George Dobson this summer, in case the Welsh outfit lands the capture of Preston North End's Ben Whiteman, as per Alan Nixon.

Dobson, 28, has been a regular in North Wales ever since joining Phil Parkinson's side from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2024, and has made 94 appearances for the Red Dragons across all competitions, scoring four and assisting nine.

The Englishman managed to retain his place in the middle of the park at the Racecourse Ground following promotion to the Championship, providing competition for the likes of Matty James, Oliver Rathbone, Lewis O'Brien, and Ben Sheaf.

as per Nixon, Dobson could be moved this summer, with Wednesday having made their interest known.

Sheffield Wednesday's George Dobson swoop hinges on Wrexham's moves for Ben Whiteman and Jayson Molumby.

Dobson would likely command a starting berth should he make the step down to League One with the Owls, and where Pedersen would manage to accommodate each of him, Bannan, Mitchell, Slattery, as well as Nathaniel Chalobah remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, a deal seems only likely to happen should Wrexham confirm the addition of one of Whiteman or Molumby to replace him.

Under the watch of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Welsh outfit have stormed their way through the EFL, and are continuing to try and spend their way all the way to the Premier League, after the recent £5 million addition of Danny Imray from Crystal Palace.

Whiteman and Molumby have a plethora of Championship experience under their belts, as does Dobson, but it appears as though Parkinson is looking to make minor upgrades across the board to fire his side towards the top flight next season.

Any addition would surely open the exit door for Dobson from Wrexham and open the doors at Hillsborough for him instead, as Wednesday continue their summer overhaul by targeting an ambitious move for the 28-year-old.

With over 300 appearances in League One and nearly half a century in the Championship, Dobson would bring a wealth of experience to the Sheffield Wednesday side.

He, Bannan, and Mitchell would have some 1,000 appearances combined in the EFL between them, giving Wednesday a highly experienced but well-balanced midfield trio.

Unlikely to break the bank, and with Wrexham unlikely to stand in his way should one of Whiteman or Molumby join them, Dobson could be a major coup for the Owls this summer as they target an immediate return to the Championship.

Wednesday will be monitoring Wrexham's situation closely, and will be ready to pounce should Dobson indeed become available this summer.
