Sheffield Wednesday are set to keep Man Utd defender Harry Amass on loan for the rest of the season.

Harry Amass is set to remain at Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Man Utd until the end of the Championship season.

The left-back joined the Owls towards the end of the summer transfer window, and he has been a bright spot in what has been a tough period for Henrik Pedersen’s side, who are nailed on for relegation following their points deduction.

Man Utd agreed to Amass’ loan, but it was said they had the opportunity to recall him in January, whether that was to keep him at the club, or to send him elsewhere, so there were doubts about his future.

However, in a positive development for the Yorkshire outfit, journalist Rob Staton has revealed that Wednesday are now set to keep Amass for the remainder of the season, as the Red Devils plan for Amass to stay at Hillsborough.

The 18-year-old is clearly benefiting from the loan move, as Pedersen has played him regularly, and whilst there have been some tough moments for Amass, he has generally impressed at his new club.

Not only has he shown himself to be capable defensively, but Amass is also a threat in the final third, and he scored his first goal for the club in the recent 3-1 defeat at Southampton.

It was previously reported that Man Utd are paying all of Amass’ wages, and even his accommodation costs, due to Wednesday’s well-documented dire financial situation that saw the club enter administration.

Firstly, it’s a great gesture from Man Utd to help Wednesday out in the way they have, so the Owls will certainly appreciate that they can now keep him for the rest of the season.

From a football perspective, it’s a decision that makes total sense for all parties, as it’s clear that Amass has settled quickly and is enjoying playing for Wednesday, even if it has been a difficult season in terms of results.

But, the Premier League giants want him to develop, and this is the best way to do that, as he is playing week in, week out in what is a very challenging environment.

Meanwhile, Wednesday get to keep a very talented player, and the fans are certainly very happy with how Amass is performing, so they will hope he maintains that form over the rest of the season.
